Swimming is said to be the fastest growing exercise activity in the UK and the second most popular, whether for family fun, getting fit or physical
therapy. This in-ground swimming pool has been carefully integrated into its surroundings by the use of second hand York stone paving as a pool surround, with mellow teak decking to conceal the electrically operated, water level, insulated, pool cover. For the competitively minded there is an Aquajet to provide a counter current at anything up to Olympic swimming speeds.
There is much debate about the most economical method of heating an outdoor pool. Air source heat pumps and/or solar panels are usually sufficient for maintaining the water temperature at a comfortable level. If there is a large body of water available or extensive areas of land, ‘free’ heat can be extracted from water or ground source heat pumps. The heat is not, unfortunately, completely free, energy is still required to extract it, but there is an attractive three to one ration of energy input to energy output. The systems and equipment are all relatively straightforward and can be controlled remotely via laptop or mobile phone.
