Space - The Busworks
Once a thriving factory that manufactured the first horse-drawn buses in the London Borough of Islington, the Omnibus factory building fell into disuse, lay unoccupied for many years and became heavily vandalised.
Philip Lancashire could see the potential of this vast, mill-like building with over 100 windows on the front elevation alone, to provide well-lit workshops and offices for what are now referred to as SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises). The Busworks is one of the largest and most successful business centres in London, providing a home for over 150 businesses, employing 600 people. The building is also the most complete and longest set of Victorian industrial buildings in London. |
